Grammar

pronouns "us" and "ourselves"

I am really confused, please help me.

One English material gives example like : "I read newspapers to keep me updated"

Then my sister said "we have to keep US updated in order to know the recent news" but I corrected her and said it should be "we have to keep OURSELVES updated in order to know the recent news"

So here are my questions:

1) is it correct to say "I read newspapers to keep me updated" or "I read newspapers to keep myself updated"

2) is it correct when I say "we have to keep OURSELVES updated in order to know the recent news" or should I say: ""we have to keep US updated in order to know the recent news".

Please explain. I really appreciate it. Thanks a lot!

" The only challenge I have with your sentence is that ourselves is followed by the word updated which to me needs another object. Usually someone or something updates something else with new information such as, books, figures, computers, etc. While you can certainly update someone on current news topics, something about updating oneself sounds slightly unnatural to me.
