Can anyone help me with a good explanation?
1. My boyfriend and I are going to the concert.
2. My boyfriend and me are going to the concert.
My friend argues that No. 2 is permissable even though it might not be correct. I KNOW that No. 1 is correct and No. 2 is incorrect and is never acceptable. How do I explain to him that he is WRONG?
Thanks for any help on this (I have a large amount of money bet on the fact that I am right and he is wrong!)

Personally, I would agree with your friend. It would also depend on which context it is used. From my point of view, Language is not encapsulated and mistakes form part of the learning process.

Personally, I would agree with your friend. The correct answer would be no1 but I would also think that no2 is permissable in the sense that it would not impede complete understanding.It would also depend on which context it is used. From my point of view, Language is not encapsulated and mistakes form part of the learning process. I may be wrong though! It is up to you to decide whether you want

Well, it really depends on how you (or your friend) defines acceptable. If you mean that people (native speakers in this case) will understand it, even though it's not grammatically correct, then it IS acceptable. But grammatically speaking, number 1 is definitely the correct one. Nobody will ever argue that no 2 is correct grammatically!

I'm afraid I can't agree that the correct use of English is simply making yourself understood. Most people (native speakers in particular) are quite good at guessing what people mean, whether the English is correct or not.
