Speech & Pronunciation

pronouncing "the" before a word beginning with y, as "yoke"

There is a discrepancy in my choir about how to pronounce "the" before the word "yoke." Is it pronounced "thee" or "thuh" ? Emotion: smile

Before vowel sounds, it is usually pronounced /thi:/ and before consonant sounds it is usually pronounced /th?/. It is not a rule, however, it is a practice. Pronounce the the way that the phrase sounds clearest. /Th?/ yoke sounds fine to me.
