Pronouncing of a certain word

Hello dear wonderful people of this forum.
I've created a thread not too long ago about the proper way to pronounce a certain word, and the invalid (in my opinion) way I was told of.
It appears I've written it wrong, so allow me to restart:

Me and a friend are debating about which way is the valid way to pronounce the word "Estimates".
I claim that the correct ways to pronounce it are:
1. "Es-Tuh-Meyts"
2. "Es-Tuh-Mits"

My friend claims it is possible to pronounce it this way:
"Es-Te-Ments".

Which of us is correct?
Thanks in advance, Moty G.

One is a noun, and the other is a verb. When pronounced "es-tuh-mit," it is a noun (like a free estimate on windows or siding on a house), and when it is pronounced "es-tuh-mate," it is a verb (like estimate the answer to a math problem, or estimate how far I can throw this rock). Depending on where you are in the country, it will be pronounced differently for both meanings.

  • I am in Arkansas, so the rednecks make it difficult to understand for learners.

No.

With the stress as shown -- not as you had it.
1 when a verb; 2 when a noun.
