Pronounciation of "y" in the word "system"

Hi

I am wondering whether the word system should be pronounced as sistem or sustem?
English natives are more than welcome to enlighten me!

Thanks for the help

Hi Mister Micawber

Thanks for your answer.
May I ask where you are from?

My dialect is Midland or Midwest AmE.

Okay, it seems that I was right! (I argued with a friend that it was the "i" sound and not the "u". I am French and she is Finnish. In french "y" is pronounced "i" whereas in Finnish it is pronounced "u" so we needed some native speakers' viewpoint to set things straight!)

Thanks a lot for your help

I can't think of any words where y is pronounced u.

Should be pronounced as short "i", as in "him"
