Pronounciation

hiiii freinds, I am a new member here, I have a question concerning the phonetic symbol schwa, I am a novice teacher of EFL , facing a difficutly in how to introduce this sound to absolute beginners , should I mention the way it is pronounced only? or i have to give them details about how and when to use it, which I find something very complicated to them, I will be very happy to receive your answers and suggestions ...

/i/ is a short vowel sound, it has nothing to do with schwa. isn't it ? my quetion is whether to talk about stress patterns and syllables, or just to have them imitate its pronounciation, did you get me now?
