Pronounciation

Hi. Is there any difference in prononcitaion of these two words?

Desert(v): To leave someone

Dessert(n): Sweet food served after meal

(Note that, I am not talking about desert as a noun which has stress on the first syllable)

The stress is in the second syllable for both of them, so my understanding is that, they should be pronounced the same.

No difference in the way I say it.

I pity the poor soldier who has the option of having salad in one room, soup in another, the main course in another room, and dessert in a fourth room, as he stands up and says, "I'm going to dessert!" and is promptly arrested by the MPs!

That's right. And the same is true for a great many other pairs of words in English.
