Pronounciation

Do you find the pronounciation of "check" and "begin" strange in the following clip

From 2:43 to 2:52 (I think I heard it right but can't be 100% sure)

So they're just going to begin with the first line. They're going to read through that and you're just going to check that they understand what it means.

The word lesson, to me, also sounds as a cross between lesson and listen.

I heard begin and I don't think it was too wrong for everyday speaking. It sounded like her mouth gets slightly dry there so it wasn't quite normal. I got bored after about a min so didn't listen to the rest however I do think that to be able to understand all the instruction on listening to that once you don't need the lesson.

  • The pace was quite quick and language wasn't graded below the level.

What kind of accent is that? From the UK? Where? Is that a native speaker at least? Very interesting/weird phonemes.

It didn't sound British to me.

She's from New Zealand. I first thought that she's from somewhere in the UK because, to me, her accent resembles a UK accent except for the strange phonemes.

At some parts it sounded british to me and sometimes it sounded completely different. But yes, it's true that her mouse is dry sometimes.

I find that she also pronounces "level" in her own way or maybe in a kiwi accent, [liv?l].

Whoa, New Zealand! Interesting... I'd never heard anything like that.
