Pronoun use

In the following sentence "They have a daughter and she is pregnant." who is "she" refering to?

Based on the sentence structure, I am asserting that she refers to the daughter. A coworker of mine is stating that she refers to They, as in the woman in a man woman couple.

Can some one break down the sentence and let us know how "she" fits into the sentence?
