Pronoun Usage

Hello,

"John is working on Part A, and I, Part B."

Is the above sentece correct? I know we can use commas to avoid repeating the verb but in the above, the same verb "is working" can't be used with I - so I got this question.

And also, is the hyphen (is it a dash or a hyphen?) before "so" above the right punctuation to use?
