Pronoun question

Is it okay to use 'they' in the second sentence to refer to the 'group' in the first sentence? During the journey, the group began to notice that Azar was using strange and powerful magic. When Shedara used her own magic on Azar, they learned that he had been killed by the Faceless Brethren and later brought back to life.
