pronoun after preposition "but"

Hi
I have found in a local book that when using "except", "but" then objective pronoun should be used
example:
1. Everyone but him likes football.
2. Everyone but he likes football.
Here two sentences, First one is him and Second one is he. Then which one is correct ? Please help me
