Grammar

pronoun

Please go through the following sentence that has been taken from "The Independent"

'There are plethora of doctors who i have met over the years who are passionately dedicated committed.......'

is the first 'who' in the sentence, correct? My grammar book suggests a replacement by 'whom'.

Top answer

Swati Animesh Paul is the first 'who' in the sentence, correct? Actually, what stands out most in that sentence is the use of i instead of the correct I. who is an acceptable alternative for whom in your sentence, but whom is the strictly correct form.

Hi,

'There are a plethora of doctors I have met over the years who are passionately dedicated and committed.......'

I would avoid the problem by simply deleting the first ''who'. Better style.
