Pronominal reference

could you please tell me if this sentence make sense to you:

"The success of the approach to land conservation was due to its flexibility. "

I just wonder whether the pronoun ITS refers clearly enough to the word THE APPROACH, or do you find it ambiguous?.
Yes, I do find it requires a bit of thought. You should try to reword it.

I suppose the pattern in the sentence above is the same as in this one:

"Alan's shyness was due to his lack of confidence. "

Here the pronoun HIS refers clearly to Alan avoiding thus ambiguity.

How about :

"The success of the approach was due to its flexibility." ???

How about: The flexibility of the approach to land convervation was the key to its success.

FOR ME IT HAS MORE SENSE THIS WAY:

The approach's succes to land conservation was due its flexibility.
or
The approach to the land conservation was successful due to its flexibility.
