Promised VS had promised

Hi,

In the sentence below, is there any difference of nuance between "you promised" and "you had promised"?

Doesn't "you had promised" feel like to be more of grumbling or criticizing attitude?

*** *** ***

Before I moved in ,you promised to fix the freezer compartment of the refrigerator.
