Project and projection

I don't know define both correctly. Here is the excercise make me confuse:
The financial ___ for next year indicate that we will need to cut spending drastically.
A. projects B. projected C. projecting D.projections
The blank need a noun, so we might exclude B&C.
I think A is the correct answer. But not surely. How about you?
