progressive tense + every day

I am thinking about the following two noun phrases (a) and (b):

(a) The most important thing that you need to do every day to become fluent in French.

(b) The most important thing that you need to be doing every day to become fluent in French.

I think (a) is normal, but (b) doesn't ring a bell.

I was a little surprised when I encountered (b) because the "be doing every day"-part is in the form of "the progressive tense + every day", which construction I had never seen in any of my English grammar books.

What is the exact meaning of (b)?
