Procurement and Purchasing

What is the diffrent between these two words- I work in a company and in my position I acquire goods from other companies.
I read that procurement means buying from other companies, but also quality assurance and transport, in which I'm pretty involved as well.
Can I write down in my signature "Procurement department", or is "Purchasing department" is more suitable in this case?
Anyway when first I got to know the word Procurement, I thought that this word is describing better than the other of what I'm doing.

Thanks!

Procurement is often slightly different, in that in means getting services as well as goods. I don't think that QC has much to do with either procurement or purchasing , though an element of transport is usually involved in both. Procurement is also more often a military or government term, I think, while purchasing is the commoner business term.

  • In any case, it is not your choice, really-- you should use the term that your company has designated.
