Problems on identifying words based on phonetics

I am wondering what is the possible word(s) for / 'r?? k?ld / ?
It sounds something like "ringcold" but clearly "ringcold" does not exist in English. I have tried to look up in dictionary with different potential spelling but I still can't find the answer Emotion: sad
Thank you in advance.

Wagner's Das Rheingold comes to mind, but that's German. Do you have a context for your example? [ edit after 10 minutes: It might be the past tense of the verb rankle , which means to cause distress or to irritate.

"wrinkled" What else can it be? There is no other word in English that has that IPA spelling.
