I have some problems with following sentences.

1. What does 'I could not wave the white ribbon in his face' mean? (I was standing at the bar when he invaded me; therefore I could not wave the white ribbon in his face.)

2.What does 'going to call time on him sharp' mean ('Hope your friend come around all right. Going to call time on him sharp?' / 'I shoul say not!" said the other. 'I'll give him half an hour at least.)

3. What is Hamburg edging?

4. Who are 'professional bondsmen' and what is menaning of 'their real estate titles'? (I noticed at one side a gatherig of professional bondsmen in solemn black and collars that buttoned behind; but it seemed there was some trouble about their real estate titles.)

5. What does 'primal energy, you say, Reverend Doctor' mean? (The remainder was credited to her and debitetd to somebody else's account in ledger kept by G-- Oh, primal energy, you say, Reverend Doctor-- whell thenm in the Ledger of Primal Energy.)

I find them difficult too, Vermont. (This is MM-- I forgot to log in again.)

1-- This is not to my knowledge an idiom-- there must be a white ribbon earlier in the story.
