Problem with understanding a sentence
"But as truth usually meets in the middle, the outcome represented the right one probably, if not by such a big score."
The above is an excerpt from a blog talking about a recent sporting event where one team lost by a large margin.
I don't understand what the author means. The '"if not by such a big score" is throwing me off.
With your answer, can you explain how you figured out what he meant? Thanks

Hi The sentence, on its own, doesn't make good sense I read the blog and, within context, I think the author is trying to say.. - My team played badly but the referees made some bad decisions against them. The mixture of those two misfortunes meant that we lost, and we probably deserved to - but maybe not by so great a margin I agree with you - it's not a great sporting description Dave

The sentence, on its own, doesn't make good sense
I read the blog and, within context, I think the author is trying to say..
- My team played badly but the referees made some bad decisions against them. The mixture of those two misfortunes meant that we lost, and we probably deserved to - but maybe not by so great a margin

He is saying that the team whcih won deserved to win. It was right that it won. But it may not have deserved to win by such a big score.
