Problem with the verb "admit"

Hi everybody! Today I have come across this sentence
in class today, B admitted _____ sleepy during lessons sometimes.
A. feel
B. to feel

I wonder whether there are differences between admit doing smt and admit to doing something? And why did the author choose D?
Thank you in advance

We admit "nouns" (mistakes), and we admit to "doing something". I must say that C. would be natural for many native speakers, because feeling is a gerund (noun).
