problem with tenses

Basically, they are raising themselves, because there is no authority figure in the home,” Mr. Jackson said. “If I call for a parent because I’m having an issue, I may be getting an aunt, who may be at the oldest 20, 21.

my question is about the part in bold type:

1.Could we replace the bold part with If I call for a parent because I have an issue,I may get an aunt,?If yes, what is the difference???If not why..

1000000000 thanks

If not why.. Yes. The continuous tenses just stress the duration, the 'ongoingness', of the actions.

IMO, the continous is also used here to show INVOLVEMENT/IMPLICATION, being right in the middle of an ongoing process, it's enacting/enlivening the drama right in front of out eyes.
