Problem with technical words...sewing machines

Hi. Im not very good english speaker.. I'm looking for help from someone who can help me with technical english (sewing machines). There is a thing called 'thread lift' or 'thread take-up'. Is the 'thread take-up' correct form? A man who helped me to translate my paper used 'thread lift' but i saw in others papers and brochures the form "thread take-up"... And one more thing - does the plural sound "thread take-ups or thread takes-up" or different... I hope u could undestand what im talking about Emotion: smile
