problem with some sentences.

1. Investors Brushed passed Nokia's competitive gains and zeroed in on the size of their market.
(What does the phrase zerod in means in this sentence?)

2. What does Down to Earth means?

3. Why the author has used the coordinate conjunction repeatedly inspite of using comma in the following sentence?

Similarly, when a deck of cards is about to be dealt, in an honest deal, in exactly the sequence of spades and hearts and diamonds and clubs, aces and kings ans queens and jacks, that is determined by their arrangement in the deck.

4. Some companies are using programmers in countries like India for software development.
First question about this sentence is that can we use from instead of in in the above sentence.
Second question about this sentence is that can we use the plural countries for a single mentioned country as in the above sentence (countries like India). Shouldn't it be countries like India and Chine. But what if we have only one country with cheaper programmers. Then is the above mentioned contruction is appropriate or not or should we say that "some companies are using programmers from India."
