Problem with "of"

Hi,
I wonder if I could say,for example, "pressure of blood" instead of "blood pressure",or "surface of water" instead of "water surface" etc.

Could we replace such collocation by using "of"?

thank you in advance

  • Not as a general rule.
  • No.
  • "the surface of the water" is certainly possible, but many other compound nouns would not be very easily recognizable to native speakers in the "of" form.
  • "pressure of blood" for "blood pressure" is an example of a very odd rephrasing.
