Problem making a sentence.

Origional sentence: Working whole day long, parents cannot but leave their children alone at home.
+ "have to": Having to work whole day long, parents cannot but leave their children alone at home.
Is this sentence correct? If it does, how can I add "must" instead of "have to" into it?

That sounds okay. I'd probably use all instead of whole. I also think is sounds better with help in there: Having to work all day long, parents cannot help but leave their children alone at home.

  • That sounds okay.

  • To use must: If they must work all day long, parents cannot help but leave their children alone at home.

You need an article with "whole day," but realize that "cannot but X" is very stilted language. More common is "must X."
