Problem: 'a lot'...

Please explain the difference between 'a lot' (or a lot of) and 'lots' (or lots of). Additionally, give each one with examples. Thanks.

I'd say they have the same meaning (= many). "A lot of" is singular, "lots of" is plural.

There's a lot of people who can't spell/ there are lots of people who can't spell.

"Lots of" sounds more like familiar language.
