privy

Hello,

In cambridge advaced learner dictionary there is a definition about the word "PRIVY".

be privy to sth to be told information that is not told to many people:

So what does the following setence mean?

HTTP clients are often privy to large amounts of personal information
(e.g. the user's name, location, mail address, passwords, encryption
keys, etc.), and SHOULD be very careful to prevent unintentional
leakage of this information via the HTTP protocol to other sources.

Do http clients leak their personal information to others? or someone else leaks his personal information to http clients?

It's just saying that these clients have the important personal information of many people made available to them as a result of the normal activities of their occupation. Because most individuals would want this information to remain private (so as to prevent identity theft, among other reasons), it is important that the clients keep such information secure.
