Primed to think about their place in the local community?

Hello everybody.
I am reading 'The Power of Fifty Bits' by Bob Nease.

In the setting of health care, we found that people who were primed to think about their place in the local community showed greater attachment to their local pharmacy and less attachment to big chain pharmacies.

What does the bold part means? Does it mean people who were made to remember their neighborhood,...?
Thanks ??
