Prices are expensive...wrong?

Hi people!

I took this example from one of CalifJim's replies, who stated that the sentence "The reason why she was late is because..." was as incorrect as "The prices are expensive", and I was wondering:

Is the last sentence wrong because "prices are high", not expensive and "food is expensive"?

Thanks a lot!

Since you are questioning my post, you probably want someone other than me to respond. Therefore I will keep this short: Yes. Things offered for sale can be expensive, but no one offers prices for sale!

In fact, CalifJim, it was you who I was hoping to answer my question. So, if you'd like to expand on the subject, I'd be grateful! Your answers are always so enlightening!

Thanks a lot!

Glad to be of help. In this case I believe the short and sweet answer given above is the most effective. Emotion: smile

PS: I wasn't exactly questioning your post in the sense of expressing doubts about the value of it. I'd never do such a thing! It's just that your answer raised some questions in my mind.

I didn't mean to imply that you had any doubts about the value the post.
I don't know what made you think that.
Please post further questions as they occur to you, of course!
