Price of/for something

Which preposition works better in your opinion?

- It had been four days since I arrived, and I didn't know the usual prices of/for things and services.

I have a preference for "of", but I would understand both. What do you think? Also, wouldn't "...and I didn't know what the usual prices of/for things and services were" work too?
