'Previous' synonym for 'last'

Hi teachers,
Would 'previous' be an appropriate synonym for last in this context?
I had a bad experience with my last student.

Thanks in advance. It's not completely accurate. A child from a previous marriage for a woman who married four times could be a child from any of the first three marriages.
