[previous] or [previously] high level

I have made up the two similar examples below.

(1) There was less crime in our city for about two years. However, it has recently gone back to the previous high level.

(2) ...... However, it has recently gone back to the previously high level.

Most of my non-native English speaking friends think (1) is correct. What is your opinion? Thanks.

  • It looks fine to me.
  • The other version seems all right as well, but I don't see any real need for the "ly".

I agree. It looks fine to me. The other version seems all right as well, but I don't see any real need for the "ly".
