I would like to know the different between beautiful and pretty

Beauty is what is on the outside and yet reaches all the way into the depths of the soul. Whereas, pretty is only an outwards appearance which can be cosmetically enhanced and yet, beauty comes from within.

I was going to say that I don't think the question of surface appearance vs. inner quality has anything to do with the choice of "pretty" vs. "beautiful, " but that's not quite true. I think "pretty" generally refers to outward appearance and "beautiful" can refer either to outward appearance or "inner beauty."

Generally, "beautiful" means "very, very pretty" or perhaps visually attractive in a more complex way that "pretty" would indicate. Sometimes the words are used interchangeably, but "beautiful" generally indicates a deeper appreciation than "pretty."

One might say that a daisy (a very simple flower) is pretty, but a rose or an orchid is beautiful.

This is the difference between a supermodel and a catalog model.  This is a controversial topic because what people consider beautiful, others might consider grotesque or gross.  There is often a kind of oddness or unwholesomeness about supermodels that you don't find in a department store model.  This in fact is what makes them "beautiful".  I personally am turned off by supermodels.  Give me pretty and wholesome any day.
