presupposition

Challenging the presupposition that fairness is an appropriate criteron on which to judge the matter.

Can you explain that gerund phrase to me ? especially the word " presupposition " ?

Does " presupposition " mean " something is true in advance without proof " ?

Thanks

Hi - this isn't a complete sentence.

It means "Let's disagree with the idea (that was assumed to be true) that fairness... etc."
