Hi,
I'm reading an American novel, and I've just bumped into a phrase in it that I can't understand.
I'll write two proceeding sentences so that the idea is clear.
"He gives me a short, two-fingered abbreviated wave, then turns and walks away. I presume back to his rental car and then on to Hawaii."
Can anyone explain what PRESUME BACK means here?
Well, presume is like suppose, assume, but what does BACK mean here?
Thanks in advance!
