Preserving/conserving objects of cultural and artistic value

Conservation-restoration is concerned with preserving objects of cultural and artistic value, like paintings and tapestries.

Hi,

Can I replace "preserving" in the above with "conserving" without making a change in meaning? Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't. The original has a more physical connotation, and anyway, 'conserve' already appears in the subject, making for poor style.
