Present tense and present perfect tense in one sentence

Hi, could we have a present and a present perfect tenses in one sentence?

He finished/did his first assignment but he hasn't done the second assignment.

He finished/did his first assignment but he hasn't done the second assignment.

The first part in your example is Simple Past tense, not Present tense. I'd like your sentence better if you specified the time of the Simple Past action,
eg He finished/did his first assignment
