Present simple or progressive

Please help us settle a discussion between English teachers!

Present simple or progressive?
Pete: You know a lot about Joan.
Jon: Well, most days I ___ (give) her a lift. She ______ (live) quite close to me. It saves petrol.

We agree on the first key (give) but disagree on the second. Is it "is living" or "lives"? Thanks for your help.
