Present simple instead of future simple

Hello,

How often is present simple used instead of future simple to refer to the nearest future? Is it common?
Eg., Do you visit them next week?
Will you visit them next week?

Eg., Do you visit them next week? This is not unusual if the speaker is asking about a plan that he/she is already aware of.
It's like 'I know you have made arrangements to visit them . Is it next week?'

Not really. You can use think to make it more common but otherwise the first question sounds very odd to me. Do you think that you will visit them next week? Will you visi

So as far as I understood in a situation when the subject has been discussed only 'do you'... can be used. No will you, are you going to.., are you visiting..., etc.

Maybe the Do in the question is a hint that suggests the subject of somebody's conversation has already been discussed?
And if I ask 'Are you going... in such a situation it would seem odd because I am supposed to k

So as far as I understood in a situation when the subject has been discussed only 'do you'... can be used. No will you, are you going to.., are you visiting..., etc. No, you misunderstand. In a situation like this, I said 'Do' is not unusual.
