Present simple and continuous

Hello, I would like to ask you about using present tenses in the following sentences.

Can I use both the present simple and continuous in the following sentences?

When I speak Spanish, I talk slowly to help people to understand me.

When I am speaking Spanish, I talk slowly to help people to understand me.

And how about these sentences? Be careful when you are crossing the street. Be careful when you cross the street.
