Present simple

Hi.

Why in this sentence:

"The conditions in which the animals are kept approximates to their natural environment."

is there an 's' after approximate? Isn't it suppose to be just 'approximate' because 'conditions' it's plural?

Thanks.

(I copied it from an oxford dictionary)
