my try:

he always ___hides______ (to hide) in the room when we ____have___ (to have) guests.

i'm quite sure about the first one, but could the second one also be "are having"?

Your answer with 2 simple presents is certainly the expected. I suppose that present progressive could appear in the second blank, though.
