Present perfect with past-time adverbs

Hello, I have a question. The following sentence:

(1) I have called my lawyer to tell him about the problems but was told that he had gone for a walk.

Is this OK? Then if I want to insert past-time adverb "last night", then

(2) I have called my lawyer last night to tell him about the problems but was told that he had gone for a walk.

Must I change 'have called' to 'called' in (2), because present perfect can't go with past-time adverbs?
Absolutely never? no exception?
