PRESENT PERFECT VS. SIMPLE PAST

Why does Calvin's father uses simple past in "you invented a robot"? Shouldn't he have used present perfect instead?

Who is Calvin's father, and what has he got to do with anything you're asking about? You use simple past or present perfect dependent upon what you want to say in the given context, so I suppose we can say that either one is possible given the fact that you've given no context except the cryptic "Calvin's father".
