Present perfect vs Present perfect continuous

Hi, guys.

In the sentence "Your shirt smells terrible! … (you/smoke)?" I would say "Have you been smoking?" But the right answer is "Have you smoked?" What's the difference? Is my option correct as well?

Top answer

" Me, too. " No, it isn't. No native speaker would say that.

I would have said "Do you smoke?" I'm thinking of the case where the smell is not just a temporary thing, but the result of a well-established habit.
