Present Perfect vs Present Perfect Continuous

Hi! Why do we use Present Perfect in this sentence:

She HASN"T EATEN meat since she was six.

and Present Perfect Progressive in this one:

He HAS BEEN SMOKING since he left school.

You can still correctly use both forms for both sentences:

"She hasn't been eating meat since she was six."

"He has smoked since he left school."

However, depending on context, one form may be preferred to another:

"Has she eaten meat today?" - "She hasn't eaten meat since she was six."
"How long has she been vegetarian?" - "She hasn't
