Present Perfect vs. Past Simple

Dear experts!

I need to explain to a person I happen to know why Present Perfect sounds unnatural in this sentence (if it does, of course):

Remember what I have told you?

If possible, could you specify how Present Perfect changes the meaning of the sentences?

As a statement, it's OK. I get the sense that the "telling" was teaching that was done many times and in many ways over the past.

The simple past is more common.
