Present Perfect vs past simple

Honestly I Search a lot but i could not understand which one of tenses (PP or PS) should i use for reporting something that I have done or did in the past. For example ,
their investigation have presented/ presented a more general model of economy.
We have used/used multiple Gaussian Functions in different positions with different sizes
I simply does not know where to use Present Perfect and where past simple. my reason to use PP is that i did something and it result is continuing by now for example i used multiple Gaussian function and its result is still persisting.
or a better example, we have simulated the model and we have got same results.
Best regards
